This afternoon we discovered another lovely little surprise in the. barn. Still wet and shivering in the chilly afternoon, Jamaica's doeling was happy for warm towels and a fresh bottle. Shes as cute as a button and her name will be Junebug:-) We hope you all have a fabulous week!
Winter is finally here, and our little farm house is a flurry of activity. The smell of Christmas is everywhere, and our shelves are filled daily with new and wonderful smelling items, ready to be shipped to their new homes around the country. As our products are gifted to friends and families, our hearts are filled with thankfulness. We are so very thankful to you, our customers for your good reviews and for sharing our farm fresh products with your loved ones at this special time of the year. You are each dear to us and we pray that your Christmas Season is filled with laughter, love, and most of all, peace and joy. A Very Merry Christmas to you all!! Love, the Bothwell family
We welcome our first doeling of the season to the herd. Born on Jan. 21, Tinker is out of Nightshade, a 2 year old doe. She's sassy and healthy aa can be.
Beautiful North idaho in winter:-)
Another storm passing through, leaving everything pretty and white. All of the does and ewes have ever growimg bellies and appetites, baby season is just around the corner.. We hope that all of you had a fabulous Thanksgiving day filled with Family, Friends, Peace and of course, a great Turkey dinner. As we gathered around our table, we all realized how much we have to be thankful for, God has provided for us in so many ways. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.
Kidding season, the time eagerly anticipated by everybody on our farm. I liken it to waiting for Christmas morning, but with much crazier hours and busy work. The arrival of new babies is an exciting time, one that you work all year to have be successful and disaster free. This year, all of our does kidded within days of each other, making for a busy week filled with lots of fun:-) Last Thursday, our youngest doe, a yearling named Trouble kidded at 1 am. The very next day, one of our oldest does, Malificent gave us a nice big buckling and a lovely doeling. This was followed by Persephone, our Boer x doe who , not to be outdone, gave us an adorable set of triplets. Sadly, one of the triplets was stillborn. However, the other two are as healthy and spunky as can be!
The does that followed, two at a time, were Misty and Firework, then Jasmine and Jamaica who were in turn followed by the last two first time mommies, Tweety and Aurora. We now have 15 adorable, heathy kids in the barn, and many does to milk. The time for full swing barn hours has begun...The leisurely hours of morning coffee time and winter will soon be a distant memory As I sit to type my first blog, I ponder about what is the best way to convey our rural life to our customers, many of whom live in the city or many miles away. We are so blessed to live in the beautiful area where we do. In North Idaho, we are minutes from lakes, mountains and forest land. The air and water are fresh and clean, the views picturesque. We raise Toggenburg dairy goats, Suffolk/ Hampshire cross sheep, have a mixed breed flock of chickens, and a couple of hives of bees. We make soaps from the milk our goats provide, and other skin care products from the wax provided by both our bees and from other local apiaries. All of our livestock are pastured in open fields and have a big comfy barn to hide in when the weather turns cold or wet. I hope you all find the blogs from our small 10 acre farm to be an entertaining glimpse into our lives.
